Terms of use
Last updated: 22 October 2026
1. About these terms
These terms apply when you use the Simple Smart Invoice app (“the app”), published by the developer of Simple Smart Invoice in Australia (“we”, “us”). By using the app you agree to them. If you got the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play, their terms also apply.
2. What the app does
The app helps you prepare invoices in English, including tax invoices with GST, and keeps your records on your phone. It is a tool for preparing documents. It is not tax, legal or accounting advice, and it is not approved or certified by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
3. Subscription
- What's free. Everything except finalising a new invoice: drafts, previews, customers, backups, the accountant export, and sharing, emailing, printing or saving invoices you've already finalised — also after a subscription ends.
- What needs a subscription. Finalising (issuing) a new invoice. Prices are shown in the app before you subscribe and are charged by Apple or Google in your store's currency.
- Renewal. A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (a month or a year) until you cancel it. Cancel at any time in your App Store or Google Play subscription settings; it then ends at the end of the period already paid for. Apple and Google handle payments and refunds under their own terms.
- Partner price. A partner code can give a lower price for a set time (for example 12 months, or the first year). After that the subscription renews at the normal price shown in the app, unless you cancel.
- New phone. Use Restore purchases with the same Apple ID or Google account. A subscription bought through Apple can't be used on Android, or the other way round: someone who changes between them subscribes again on the new store.
- There are no accounts: the app doesn't know who you are, and your subscription is tied to your Apple ID or Google account.
4. Your responsibilities
- Check every invoice before you send it: amounts, GST, dates, your ABN and your customer's details. You decide whether GST applies; the app never decides it for you.
- Check translations. Machine translation can be wrong, especially for trade terms and numbers.
- Keep your records as the law requires (generally at least 5 years for Australian businesses) and make backups. Your data is stored only on your phone; if the phone is lost or the app is deleted without a backup, we cannot recover it.
- Keep your backup password safe. We can't recover it.
- Restoring a backup. “Add to this phone” adds what the backup has and changes nothing already on the phone. “Replace everything on this phone” deletes the records on the phone, including invoices that aren't in the backup, and can't be undone, so back up the phone first. Restoring is simplest on a phone with no invoices yet. After a restore, check your invoices and their status (paid, cancelled).
- One phone for your records. The app doesn't sync between phones. Each phone keeps its own records and invoice numbers, and a restore can't combine changes made to the same invoice on two phones. If you use more than one phone, give each a different invoice prefix.
- Only restore backups you made. Never open a backup file someone else sends you.
- Reports and exports help you prepare your BAS or tax return; the app lodges nothing. Check them against your records.
- Your customers' details. You are responsible for the personal information you enter about your customers.
- Honest invoices. Don't use the app to make false or misleading invoices.
- If you're unsure about your obligations, ask the ATO or your accountant.
5. Your data
Your data belongs to you. How the app handles it is explained in the privacy policy.
6. Australian Consumer Law
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any consumer guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded.
7. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows, and subject to section 6, we provide the app “as is”, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss caused by incorrect information entered into the app, unchecked translations, lost passwords, data lost because no backup was made, or records deleted or changed by a restore you chose (including “Replace everything”). Where our liability for a failure to comply with a consumer guarantee can be limited, it is limited to supplying the service again or paying the cost of having it supplied again.
8. Changes and availability
We may update the app and these terms. If a change to the terms matters to you, we will say so in the app. A backup made with a newer version of the app may need the app to be updated before it opens. We may stop offering the app; if we do, your data stays on your phone and you can still export your backups and invoices.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and apply throughout Australia. You and we submit to the courts of New South Wales.
